R.I.D.E. and On A Mission Reviews

R.I.D.E. Review by Kim

After a long wait, R.I.D.E. finally hit store shelves in late August. Ive had nothing but this CD in my truck ever since and I love it. Having been to many live shows, I'd had the opportunity to hear much of the CD in advance. I think we were all familar with The Bride, which was released on radio and video ages ago.

I had heard "When I Fall" in concert and knew this would be my favorite, even before hearing the rest of the CD.

Other favorites include "Wasting Good Whisky" (which I believe will be the next single), "Its A Heartache", "Once A Cowboy" and "Stand In The Middle of Texas". Of the fun, upbeat ones, "I Didn't" is by far my favorite.

When I heard "Sad City" in concert, I loved it as well. Still do, but would have preferred that just Keith sang lead on that one. Darius Rucker doesn't do a bad job, I just prefer Keith's concert version.

The remaining ones are good, but not stand-outs. I usually skip through them to get to my favorites though.

I am not sure I see George Jones' purpose. I could do without his bits and thankfully, only two and they are short.

I cant wind up this review without mentioning Heidi's tribute to her mother. While I am not big on gospel songs, this is beautifully done.

Ellen's R.I.D.E. Review

Hey Kim! It's rebuttal review time. I love all the songs that you don't care about! Haha! My favorites are "Cry Cry Cry" and "What's Not to Love." What can I say? I love rockabilly music! "Sad City" is excellent even with the Hootie dude. "Hillbilly Rich" kind of kicks ass. I like all the rest just fine. I guess my least favorite is "When I Fall." I'm just not a love ballad type of gal and usually skip that one. George Jones is there for comedy, that's the purpose (and probably to make up for the fact that there's no Old School duet on this album. I was hoping that Heidi would sing with Loretta this time!) Well, I'm just glad that it finally came out and I'm really hoping that they have another CD out in 2006. Now I just wish they were going to be touring through here soon!

On A Mission Review by Kim

Trick Pony's second CD, 'On A Mission' came out on November 5, 2002, and I've not played anything else since.

The title cut, which Im sure most of you have heard, is an awesome, upbeat, let's-go-drinking party song. The video is great also. Please go vote for it at CMT and GAC!

Also on the cd, is a remake of Willie Nelson's 'Whiskey River' and features Willie on guitar and vocals. Through the first couple lines of the song, it seems like they don't have it together, but as the song gets going, they sound better and better. It's an old favorite of mine by Willie and sounds great.

Heidi sings a couple of ballads powerfully and beautifully. My favorite is 'Love Be Still'. 'Rain' is the other ballad, and shows off her vocal talents quite well.

'A Boy Like You' and 'Fast Horse' are two of my favorites, sung with Heidi on lead.

The boys also sing a few. 'Love Is A Ball' is a riot. The lyrics are fun stuff. (ex: 'Love is a ball, a 100 pound ball, on the end of a chain about 10 feet long, wrapped around my ankle, I drag it down the hall, people let me tell ya, Love Is A Ball') I can see that becoming a concert favorite. 'Leaving Seems To Be The Going Thing' is a good one too. The one that is surprising is sung by Ira and called 'The Devil In Me'. It's a ballad about battling the bottle and other inner demons for years and having to hide from family and loved ones. It's not like anything Trick Pony's done before, and shows a whole new dimension.

The pics in and on the cd cover are excellent also, they all look terrific.

Hope you all enjoy 'On A Mission' as much as I am.
